The Folklore connection is found in the song “The Strangeness” which discusses the events and legends of a crossroads in one of the worlds that make up the universe. It tells of the X Y Z W last day of the ancient calendar and the last meeting of what they were calling the Light Mage.
The hidden symbolism appears in the song “The Gallows Jumper” which begins with spoken word explanations of each line, then the spoken word is replaced with the music. “The Gallows Jumper” has references to death, adventure, casting out, reverence, despair, and the unknown.
The song “Endless Void” is about a mining expedition into a tunnel system the traveler follows and finally descends into a tomb. “Endless Void” has descriptions of the miner journeying through tunnel systems that seem to go on for eternity. At the end of the song there is an aural illusion of the body being removed from a coffin. It is a powerful experience.
The song “Balderdash” is about how the adventurer listens to his or her inner voice, gut feeling and instincts. It is the sound of the soul speaking to the adventurer.
The song “The Daughter of the Sea” is about a sailor who finds his way into an underwater cave. It’s a bluesy sound and is meant to be played slow in a light jazz style.
“Ham Toe” is a football song and is about player leaving the field. It is written from the point of view of a player being benched and being replaced.
“Ham Toe” and “Down the Middle” are about playing team sports.
