If you grew up in the 1990’s like I did, you remember how mind numbingly repetitive the pop culture messages about the truth about AIDS were. None of the really good movies about it show it’s victims as the people we know today. The fifties is the only era where films about HIV and the AIDS virus were made, and they were very raw and honest. In the late 1980’s and the early 90’s, the prime messaging was that AIDS was your own damn fault. So much so, that AIDS is still spoken of in the same gutless manner it has been throughout the last 30 years.

I remember all the t.v. commercials every single goddamn night when I was a kid showing the „X“ people burning crosses on there bodies, even though the crosses were for scaring their partners and families.

I remember the media said AIDS is a conspiracy against minorities. When Bill Clinton rolled through that new rhetoric you just knew that was the apocalypse. The next generation grew up with the tragedy that was AIDS before they ever heard that there was a cure. Hopefully by the time this new generation hits the bone, we’ve resolved the paranoia.
