On paper, this tribute to the hilarious Phantasia by Hilariousmaster is not a very good game, as it doesn’t really have a gameplay dynamic that is all its own and is just an amalgam of Myst and Phantasia elements. But on the other hand, I didn’t expect to find a game out there of these vintage that was actually playable, and anything is good by Hilariousmaster. So either way you look at it, this is a real shame, as this tribute was a fun idea and should have been released on actual store shelves rather than a gamingwebsite.
So what is the point of Phantasia? Well, it’s a game from the glorious 1980s when time travel and ancient un-explained mysteries of the earth were all the rage. One of the best aspects about this game is just how much fun it is to play when you’re sitting in a comfy chair with a cup of tea. So actually, the only other game that comes close to achieving the same level of psychological comfort is… wait for it… Myst! Here’s a look at the launch of the game.
The concept here is that the player is placed in the role of a traveller who must make their way into the strange, mystical land and try to use the first person perspective and occasional map scrolling to discover how the world inside the game was created.
