A dielectric filter of the type described is generally designed so as to resonate at a predetermined frequency. Therefore, an impedance-matching circuit for matching the impedance of the filter to that of a matching circuit is generally inserted at a signal input. If the impedance-matching circuit is composed of only a resistor or a capacitor, the insertion loss at the frequency at which the filter resonates becomes excessively large. Therefore, a high input impedance coil is used to match the impedance of the filter to that of the matching circuit. Since the impedance of the coil is generally high in comparison with that of the resistor or capacitor, the insertion loss can be kept below a certain level.
In the conventional dielectric filter described above, however, there is a problem in that an additional signal loss occurs in the coil because of the high impedance.
A dielectric filter of the type in which a transmission line having a predetermined length is formed inside a dielectric substrate has been proposed in order to reduce the insertion loss in the coil of the impedance-matching circuit. However, it is very difficult to form a transmission line having a length of several hundreds of microns inside a dielectric substrate. As the publication says, „For the arcing soldier, the situation can be deadly.“ As the
