EMA (Electricity Meter Analyzer) is a program that helps you determine the accuracy of power bills received from your electricity retailer, it does this by analysing each half hour interval by time of day and the power type (peak, off peak, shoulder and controlled load) then applying the rate for each of the types to come up with what it believes is a total cost for the power used.
Before EMA can do this, you need to obtain the NEM12data to import from your retailer which they must provide by law when asked by you. It is essential that it is made clear to them that the file they provide is the same as that received by the retailer via their electricity distributor or network provider and you must set options that EMA uses to customize data entry requirements based on your tariff power types.
EMA will only convert data to it’s standard format using the NEM12 data file, the format of this file is governed by a national standard which ALL electricity distributors must adhere to. If the file you receive is not to this standard, import will fail and you will not be able to produce a bill comparison.

MAKES BILL COMPARISON A BREEZE
makes it so fast and easy to compare your electricity usage to your neighbour’s with this simple app.
Takes the ‚time of use‘ and customizes it to your electricity company’s time periods.
filters out the noise of your internal electricity bill by applying the electricity rate by time of use
sets up a connection with your electricity retailer and no account required
EMA will validate and match the data its given with what is expected from you. It will do this by using the NEM12 data you have provided if it receives it. If it does not receive it, it will display the message „unable to import due to failure.“
HOW DOES IT WORK?
just open the program and select „customize bill“ and select the country you live in. that’s it.
you must use a password to login to the tool and you must configure it so that it only uses data you provide. this is so that it can not share with anyone else the data you provide.
Once you have successfully set up your meter and provided it with data, open the program and select „start analysis“. the program will now determine the type of data you have provided using the NEM12 data that is required and will use it to analyse the power you use at your address.
the analysis will consist of three full hourly cycles for each time of the day. this means the program will run through each half hour in the selected time period then create charts and summaries for each hour.
using the data given by the provider, EMA will then calculate the cost of power at your address and present it in an easy to read, readable interface.
next, the program will analyze the cost of power based on the different ‚time of use‘ periods of time you have set. each of these times of use periods have a cost associated with them.
the program will determine which time of use rates applies to your address and determine how much you should be billed for each of these different periods of time.
if the difference between the total cost of power and the total amount of electricity being used is over $0.49, EMA will report this to you via an SMS message.
EMA will apply the correct time of use for each power type.
There are 3 main variables that the program uses to determine the time of use:
Peak Supply – this is used for peak use periods, any supply when the electricity retailer does not have to
